Tegami knives is...

Sharp as a scalpel

Forged from the same premium steel
(4116 + VG–10).

Elegant and unique

Each knife is unique, with its own pattern
on the blade and handle.

Retains its edge
for up to 6 months

Each knife contains 67 layers of steel for
sharpness and strength.

Hand fatigue protection

The ergonomic handle reduces strain on
the wrist.

Just look at how effortlessly these knives slice and chop various ingredients

They easily and gently slice fresh bread into pieces up to 3 mm thick, preserving the crumbs and texture of the soft interior.

They pass the 'Apple in Water' test with ease, a challenge that 99% of other kitchen knives can't overcome.

In a split second, they cut a thick-walled
bell pepper in half as it falls.

They slice thin, translucent pieces of red grapefruit with thick, tough skin, effortlessly.

And, like butter, they slice off the corner of a sheet of paper. This is the 'MacBook test' of the knife world.

Take a closer look at the Tegami knives!
Each one is unique, like a work of art

All knives belong to the Japanese brand Tegami, which translates to 'Letter.' This name symbolizes delicate, precise work: preparing culinary ingredients with exceptional care, like a letter written by hand in calligraphy.

Each knife is made of 67 layers of Damascus steel.
The central layer is premium VG-10 steel, which retains its sharpness perfectly but is less impact-resistant.
To protect it, 33 layers of 4116 steel are added on each side. This steel is highly durable and easy to sharpen. Thanks to a special forging technique, it creates a beautiful pattern on the blade with shimmering effects. As a result of this combination, the knife maintains its sharpness for over 6 months and is resistant to damage and corrosion.

Matoshi Hitogawa,
blacksmith

Hello! I’m Hitogawa, a blacksmith of six generations. I’ve been crafting Tegami knives for over 20 years.
I believe that every handmade kitchen knife has a soul. The soul of the blacksmith who created it. That’s why we call all our knives tamashii no yaiba (魂の刃), which translates to 'blade with a soul'. It’s also why we pour a piece of ourselves into every knife we create, selecting only the finest materials and making each blade unique and one-of-a-kind.

For example, instead of regular wood, we use maple burl for the knife handle. These are special and rare growths with a unique grain structure and distinctive pattern. Moreover, maple itself symbolizes strength, beauty, elegance, and balance, making it a perfect match for Tegami knives.

The forging and other stages of creating your knife are done by hand; only the finishing touches — grinding and sharpening — are automated

Guys, this is just something else! I totally fell for the tricks they show in the ads with these knives. You know, like slicing an apple in mid-air, or cutting lettuce leaves, or a grapefruit. And even a dish sponge. Deep down, I knew it was all just marketing and hype. But since I absolutely love this kind of stuff, I decided to try it out myself. And guess what? It actually works! Everything they show in the ads—it’s all true! I’m just blown away! Now, I even bring my knife to parties, show off the tricks, and become the life of the party. Though at one party, someone swiped my first knife, so I had to order a new one. The same one — a santoku.

After buying the Tegami set (3 knives), I threw away all my old knives because I just can't use them anymore! Tegami knives are as sharp as blades, as beautiful as a mature man from Spanish films, and as reliable as Swiss watches. I even feel like I'm cooking better with them ))). But the most important thing is that now I get real enjoyment from cooking, and that's something money can't buy!

I've been a chef for 6 years, and during that time, I've seen countless knives. When I was asked to write an honest and unbiased review of the Tegami chef's knife, I was skeptical: "Guys, you do realize that I'll be comparing your knife to my limited-edition Bob Kramer worth $2,000, right? Not worried?" I said. But they told me that's exactly what they wanted. So, I took it for a test. And here's what I can say.

First, it's truly a solid knife that, in terms of quality, comes very close to my professional one and passed all the culinary tests, even the toughest ones: the multilayer cutting test, cutting herbs in water, a single sponge cut, and many others. It outperforms 9 out of 10 knives I've come across.

Second, the handle's ergonomics are like that of a professional knife.

And third, it looks beautiful. That's undeniable. So yes, I can recommend it to both amateurs and professionals alike.

As a beginner chef, I was looking for the best option in terms of price and quality because I didn’t have the extra money to spend on an expensive knife. I’m so glad I came across the presentation of the Japanese brand Tegami. I’ve always loved Japan and Japanese brands, but with this one... When you hold the knife, it feels like it’s alive. I can’t quite put it into words. And it’s incredibly sharp. Like a razor. This isn’t just a marketing slogan; it’s a real feature. So you have to be very careful.

P.S. I’ve been using this knife for over three years now and have only sharpened it three times on a whetstone. Regular sharpening stones aren’t suitable for it, just like for any other premium knives.

Now I understand what real kitchen knives are! The ones sold in stores don’t even come close to Tegami. I ordered a set of 5 knives and… just wow! I’m speechless, I don’t even know what to say. Everything is exactly like in the ads. Actually, they look even better in person than in the pictures.

Hello everyone, here’s my review of the Tegami knife. I ordered it in February 2024, and I chose the universal model so I could clean chicken, prep fish, and cut fruits/vegetables with it.

First impressions — it’s incredibly sharp. Much sharper than regular knives, so you need to be very careful with it.

It’s held its sharpness for almost a year now, and I have no complaints. They say you can hone it with a honing steel, but I haven’t needed to yet since it easily handles everything from tendons and fish bones to hard fruits like pomelo. I’m completely satisfied with it.
